The cat is not around and the mice have fun!

Ken and Nagisa were up early today as Ken and Zen had to go to Tokyo today. It was a hectic morning with so many guests and everyone was in everyones way. It was a great relief when we soon packed them off and could attend to our own tasks.

After all the questions that I asked, Nagisa decided to make us a traditional Japanese meal. It was fantastic. It comprises of my favourite Tamago-yaki, Gobo (Burdock), Japanese pickles and onigiri! Ava and I gave a shot at making onigiri and it was amazing how tricky it can be. Nagisa said that she has been making onigiri since the age of 7. She was brought up by her grandmother and learnt to cook authentic Japanese food with that indigeneous flavour. We ate outside as the weather was fantastic and my rice ball contained the seed that she had left out on purpose. It was really a great lunch.

Home-cooked Japanese lunch, cannot find it anywhere else!

I walked to Kirifuri falls after lunch. I Didnt there to keep my hopes too high after the fiasco yesterday but the falls looked quite decent from the photos.

It was another upslope walk and I encountered a group of bikers travelling together. There were about 30 of them and some of them were ladies. It was quite amazing. But again, nothing beats going up the hill on your own efforts.

The actual trail to the summit of the mountains will take an entire day. Once again, I do not have the time to do the trek. But I sat down at next to a stall selling roasted fish and did a card for Ava.

A driver came by and asked me for directions. I showed him the map I had with me, and advised him to approach a local family. There were many of them out today as it is the weekend. It was nice chatting with the japanese family. I didnt really want to get a lift from them, but the coincidence is that when I hitchhiked to go back to the lodge, they were the ones who happened to come by. They lived in Utsunomiya and had driven half an hour to get here.

Once again, I am so grateful for Japanese altruistic attitude - to lend a hand whenever it is needed.
